The 2012 NLC Award will present one $1,000 scholarship to an NSCS members who creatively illustrates how they embody the NLC tagline. The National Leadership Council reviews and selects the recipient for this award.

Jennifer Lynn Nadler: Chapman University - $1,000.00
Jennifer Nadler is a sophomore student at Chapman University majoring in Communication Studies and minoring in Public Relations and Leadership & Organizational Studies. Jennifer is a Presidential Scholar and on the Chancellor’s List. She is involved in numerous areas of campus and is passionate about her university. She has held on-campus jobs in University Advancement and the Department of Student & Campus Life. She has been involved in several student organizations, including the Coalition of Artistic Students in Theatre and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Additionally, she was recently accepted to be a Chapman Ambassador for the 2011-2012 school year. She is also a proud member of the Alpha Gamma Delta International Fraternity.
Jennifer’s biggest passion and involvement on campus is that of community service and the American Cancer Society. As a freshman, she founded the Colleges Against Cancer chapter at Chapman and currently serves as President. She is also the event co-chair and co-founder of the Relay for Life of Chapman University. With almost 300 hours of dedication put into this year’s event, the 24-hour fundraiser for the American Cancer Society raised almost $27,000in its first year on campus. She also has participated in the Chapman Day of Service, the Greek Day of Service, various community service experiences, philanthropy events for Alpha Gamma Delta, and an Alternative Spring Break Trip to work with the poor, homeless, and underemployed in San Jose. She received the Service Spotlight Award in 2010 for her work with Relay for Life.
Jennifer looks forward to studying abroad in Paris in the fall of 2011 and to the rest of her time at Chapman University. After graduating, she would like to pursue a career in the non-profit sector, working with community-based, health-oriented organizations with the goal of engaging high school and college students.
Sean Gruber: University of Maryland - $500.00
I am a sophomore at the University of Maryland, majoring in Math and Secondary Education. I plan on earning my Master’s degree in Education after graduating as an undergraduate in the spring of 2013. I have played the saxophone for nine years, the guitar for two, and I am greatly involved with Christian campus ministries, including The Navigators and Maryland Christian Fellowship. Some of my other favorite hobbies include running, playing volleyball, and watching movies. I am an RA in La Plata Hall on campus at the University of Maryland and I love working with residents that I live with on my floor. I am very excited about my upcoming semesters here at the University of Maryland and I look forward to becoming more involved in the community and on campus! NSCS has opened up so many opportunities for me and I can’t begin to explain the positive impact the organization has had on this University.
Mary Ellen Lau: Syracuse University - $500.00
I am currently a senior at Syracuse University, double majoring in Psychology and Neuroscience with a concentration in Pre-Medicine. I have been an officer of the SU chapter’s officer board for three years, this being my first as President. I spend my free time volunteering at the local hospital, doing research, going to the gym, and hanging out with friends. Upon graduation, I plan on pursuing research opportunities in neuropharmacology and applying to medical school.
