Each year NSCS awards $1,000 scholarships to 52 outstanding new members across the country to help defray the costs of education. Merit Award recipients are selected based on how they exemplify the NSCS mission to “Honor and inspire academic excellence and engaged citizenship for a lifetime” on their campus throughout their undergraduate experience.

Where can I get my letter of recommendation from?
We ask that letter be submitted by anyone who knows you well and can attest to your character, leadership ability, commitment to community service, or academic achievement. This may include an employer, minister, neighbor or friend of the family. It cannot be your parents, guardians or other relatives.
Can I fax or e-mail my application?
Due to the large number of applicants, we are unable to accept faxed or emailed applications
Application deadline: I missed the deadline. Can I still apply?
Due to a large number of applicants, we are unable to accommodate any individual deadline extensions.
Recommendation deadline: My recommender sent in their recommendation letter late. Will it still be accepted?
No.it is your responsibility to let the recommender know of the postmark deadlines. No exceptions will be granted.
Your recommender can also fax the letter of recommendation with NSCS recommendation form, so far we have the signature of your recommender and a phone number we can contact them with. NSCS Fax # is 202.265.9200
Do I have to be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in order to apply for NSCS scholarship
No. NSCS scholarships are open to all legal residents of the United States.
What sort of Notification email will I receive?
We will send an acknowledgement email stating that we received your application. Please allow two weeks for the acknowledgement email.
We will also send an acknowledgement letter email when we receive your recommendation
We will send an acknowledgement if you are not selected as a recipient
Is the $1,000 check made out to me or the school?
The check is made out to you directly; however, we require that you submit a W9 form to NSCS
When will I get my check?
If you are selected as a Merit Award recipient, your check will be presented to you during your Induction Convocation. Your induction date will be included in your congratulatory letter.
