Start the process as early as possible
Complete the entire application
Make sure that entire application is complete. If a question doesn’t apply, note it on the application. If you are not sure about how to answer any part of application, you should contact the Scholarship Coordinator. But do not just leave it blank.
Follow directions carefully
Read the directions carefully and provide all the supporting material required with the application such as scholarship essays, letter of recommendation, etc. Do not provide anything that is not requested as this will not help you.
Write an essay that makes a strong impression
Specifically write about what the scholarship is asking for and do not be vague. Use concrete examples and sightings while forming the thesis, body and conclusion. You should keep in mind that the objective of essays are to evaluate the student’s suitability as a candidate. Be personal and specific to make a strong essay.
Watch all deadlines
Make sure you know all the deadlines and application dates for the scholarship. If you miss the deadline, the application will not be considered. You do not want to miss the perfect scholarship for yourself, due to a simple mistake.
Proofread Your Applications Carefully
Review everything. Typos and grammatical errors are a sure way to be disqualified for a scholarship. Consider asking a parent, teacher, or friend to read through your application.
Be Honest
Lastly and maybe most importantly, be honest within the application and essay. Don’t exaggerate your grades, memberships, skills, or qualifications. It is better to focus on the scholarships for which you might be eligible.
