Hillsborough Community College chapter dedicated their Integrity Week celebration to the environment.
Integrity is one of the most sacred ideals held by The National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Members are consistently challenged to show and demonstrate integrity in their lives. During Integrity Week chapters across the country celebrate the value of integrity as they do every year around this time.
The members of the Hillsborough Community College chapter accepted that challenge and took it even further, extending it not only to personal and professional integrity, but to environmental integrity as well.
Each day something new was happening on campus to promote environmental activism and a clean planet. Whether it was a movie marathon on Friday or a day dedicated to promoting carpooling, walking and biking to work and school on Tuesday, the chapter took the initiative to spread a little love for the planet around the HCC campus.
HCC chapter President Kenneth Rosario-Gonzalez was a big part of the planning and execution that enabled the group to celebrate a very green Integrity Week. Rosario-Gonzalez, a man of few words, summed it up perfectly.
“I feel that we successfully spread awareness on local and global environmental issues,” said Rosario-Gonzalez.
Last year, the HCC chapter held a symposium. Dr. John Ball, Honors History Professor, gave a lecture on the history of Arete and how it ties to the value of integrity.
This is the first year that the chapter decided to paint Integrity Week green. Sherice Evans, the chapter’s regional manager, was very impressed with the direction the chapter took with this year’s Integrity Week.
“I was very impressed with how this chapter thought outside of the box for Integrity Week,” said Evans. “They are a new chapter and raised the bar high for community colleges as well as four-year universities. They even went an extra step and collaborated with USF to help bring awareness. What an awesome chapter!”
