New Member Induction Ceremony

After students accept their nomination to join The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, they are officially welcomed into NSCS at the New Member Induction Ceremony held the following fall. The Induction provides members the opportunity to be formally inducted into the Society, receive their membership pins as well as a chance to learn more about NSCS and meet chapter leadership.

Parents, friends, and family are encouraged to attend this Induction Ceremony to help recognize the students’ high scholastic achievements and commitment to their campus community. During the Induction, new members will learn about the traditions of the Society and will be challenged to become involved in their community through leadership and service.

New Member Induction Ceremony FAQs

How should I RSVP?

You should have received an RSVP from Pingg.com, if you did not receive an e-mail from the site, please contact the National Office or your chapter’s officer board via phone or e-mail and let them know that you plan to attend your Induction Ceremony. It is not required that guests RSVP. However, if you are bringing more than 1-2 people, we recommend letting your chapter officers know by posting on the Induction Event Page on your chapter’s Facebook Page, supplying an RSVP on Pingg.com or by contacting your officers directly.

Why didn’t I get an invitation to attend Induction? My friend got one and I think I should get one too.

Invitations were mailed to new members only, based on their join date. If you joined after invitations were sent (August 1), you probably did not receive one, but you are still more than welcome and strongly encouraged to attend your Induction Ceremony. If you joined NSCS before August 1 and didn’t get an invitation, we may not have the correct mailing address for you. Please confirm your mailing address with the national office to avoid mailing problems in the future. You can do so by calling 202.265.9000 or e-mailing nscs@nscs.org.

Am I still an NSCS Member if I don’t attend my chapter’s New Member Induction Ceremony?

You are still a lifetime member of NSCS with full benefits even if you are unable to attend your chapter’s Induction. As a member of NSCS you are still encouraged to apply for scholarships, participate in chapter activities and take advantage of other NSCS opportunities.

I can’t attend my chapter’s Induction this year. Am I able to attend next year’s Induction instead?

Yes, but please note that you may not be included in the invitation materials as they are only provided to this year’s new members. Feel free to stay up to date with your chapter and its activities and events by checking e-mails that you receive from NSCS and visiting your chapter’s Facebook Page.

I’ve transferred schools and I cannot attend the Induction at my previous school.

We have chapters at over 300 colleges and universities across the nation; therefore, we can transfer your membership to your new institution and you can still attend your NSCS induction (if the date has not passed).

If your new school does not have an NSCS chapter and it meets the requirements we have in place for starting a new chapter then please let us know and our Chapter Development Team can assist you in starting a chapter.

Do friends, family and other guests need a ticket to attend Induction?

You do not need a ticket to attend Induction. However, if you are bringing more than 1-2 people, we recommend letting your chapter officers know by posting on the Induction Event Page on your chapter’s Facebook Page or by contacting your officers directly.

What is the dress code?

The dress code is Business attire.

How many guests can I bring?

Most Inductees bring 1-2 guests. If you plan on bringing more please make sure to let your chapter officers know by commenting on the Induction Event Page on the chapter’s Facebook Page or by contacting your chapter officers directly.

I attend an online school, how do I participate in my Induction Ceremony?

A link (and sometimes a phone number) will be provided on the chapter’s Event page on their chapter Facebook Page. On the day of the event click the link, sign in with your first name, last name, and e-mail address, and make sure the sound on your computer is on. Your chapter officers will also provide attendees with information prior to the ceremony.

My Induction is online and I don’t have a webcam, can I still participate?

Yes. Most online Inductions only require a computer and sound, while some also require a phone. Make sure you read the information on the Facebook Event Page on your chapter’s Facebook Page.

If the Induction Ceremony is online, why do I need to dress in business attirel?

How you dress often reflects how you feel. Induction into NSCS is an important occasion and you should look and feel the part.

Under location, it lists a website. What does this mean?

This means your Induction Ceremony will be held online.

Why do we have to have our Induction Ceremony online? I feel like we should be recognized in person.

Because your chapter is at a school that is traditionally online or has many brick and mortar campuses around the nation. Due to this fact, there are members across the country that want to participate but are unable to all come to one location.

Online Inductions are recorded and posted on the chapter’s Facebook Page after the live Induction so that those members that were unable to attend can watch on their own time—a benefit most brick and mortar chapters do not get.

I see the time of the Induction, but I am unsure of what time zone the Induction is being held in?

Please be sure to ask your chapter officers via the chapter’s Facebook Page or e-mail.

Are there any obligations if I accept my Distinguished Membership?

As a Distinguished Member you would have all the rights and benefits of a lifetime member of the Society. This honorary membership is a formal recognition for your outstanding contributions to the community and has no other requirements or obligations if accepted.
