Washington, D.C. – Three NSCS members have completed the 2S Challenge and received scholarships through The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) summer program.
The National Society of Collegiate Scholars’ (NSCS) Summer Success (S2) Challenge is a 12-week program that launched on June 6 and continued through August 2011. Throughout the program, NSCS members interact through social media and complete challenges that will help to prepare them for the upcoming year as well as well as reflect on the past semester.
The three scholarship recipients, Anthony Oxx of Murray State University ($1,000), Dawn Angelicca Barcelona of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey ($500) and Jessica Ingle of University of Tennessee ($500) joined other NSCS members across the country at more than 300 chapters who signed up to take this three month challenge and win a chance to become a scholarship recipient.
Each week select members who participated in the challenge were awarded a prize. At the end of the summer the top three S2 Challengers with the most points were be awarded scholarships.
“What I’ve learned over the summer is that working hard and perseverance pays off!” said Oxx, $1,000 scholarship recipient. “College is not getting any cheaper and winning the S2C Challenge will help me tremendously. I want to thank the National Society of Collegiate Scholars from the bottom of heart for the opportunity to participate in this challenge. Furthermore, I promise to uphold the principles of the organization: Scholarship, Leadership and Service.”
Each week of the program featured a different challenge on the NSCS Facebook page as well as in the weekly newsletter for members to complete to earn points. For every challenge members completed, they were awarded a certain number of points.
“This is the first time we’ve done something like this on such a huge scale using the national Facebook page, so we’re all very excited about the outcome,” said Leah Schklar, Manager, Member Services and Interaction, who manages the NSCS Facebook page. “We love the idea of engaging and helping members grow throughout the summer, but we’re most excited about awarding a $1,000 scholarship at the end of it!”
