September 14, 2011- Washington, D.C. – The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) is pleased to announce three NSCS members have received The Pearson Prize for Higher Education.
The Pearson Foundation established The Pearson Prize for Higher Education to recognize and support active college students who have made an impact on their college campus and community.
NSCS members are among 70 recipients for this prestigious national award with one Community Fellow receiving a $500 scholarship and two National Fellows receiving the $10,000 scholarship.
• Rachel Binder-Hathaway, University of Maine - $10,000
• Amber Koonce, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - $10,000
• Abigail Hardin, University of Alabama - $500
The recipients were required to complete a two-step application process. First, they completed essay questions pertaining to community and campus involvement, leadership and service. National Fellow applicants shortlisted from the first stage were required to create a video explaining why they deserved the Pearson Prize.
In addition to the scholarship award, all Pearson Prize Scholars receive a digital portfolio and access to online tools to tell their stories through the Pearson Foundation's leadership programs. They are also connected to an ongoing support network of current and past Pearson Prize recipients.
