City Year is a non-profit organization that unites young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. As tutors, mentors, and role models, these young leaders make a difference in the lives of children and transform schools and neighborhoods. At City Year's 18 locations across the United States, young people between the ages of 17-24 serve full-time for 10 months, each providing 1,700 hours of service. City Year is a proud member of AmeriCorps.

 

Teach For America has a network of more than 17,000 members. Today some 5,000 corps members are leading classrooms across the country while more than 12,000 alumni are effecting broader changes to help close the achievement gap. The U.S. Public Service Academy has over 250 active Youth Advisory Council members working hard in their communities to write op-ed pieces for local and campus newspapers, meet with Congressional representatives to garner support for the bill before Congress and recruit others to join the movement.

The Institute for Responsible Citizenship prepares high-achieving African American men for successful careers in business, law, government, public service, education, journalism, the sciences, medicine, ministry, and the arts. The program aims to not only to help talented African American men achieve career success, butalso to train these young leaders to be men of great character who will make significant contributions to their communities, their country, and the world.

 

The Ponts of Light Institute is a Washington, DC based, non-profit organization working in communities throughout the United States through a network of over 500 Volunteer Centers. Founded by President George H.W. Bush in 1989, the Institute has the largest national volunteer footprint in the nation,

 

The President’s Volunteer Service Award was created by President George W. Bush in 2002 to recognize the tens of millions of Americans who have made a sustained commitment to volunteer service. The award is given to NSCS members who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service and civic participation by completing 100 hours of service over the course of a 12-month period.
