NSCS Announces China Immersion Program
Washington, D.C. –For students looking to get an edge in today's global economy, there's
a new China-based program that will help them do just that.
The China Professional Training & Language Academy (CPTLA) is a four-month language and internship program in China, taking place from January-May 2009.
The program includes one month of intensive Mandarin language
training and a three-month internship for companies such as Coca
Cola-China and Motorola-China. The program is run by The National
Society of Collegiate Scholars, an honor society inviting high
achieving freshmen and sophomores.
"NSCS started this program so that American college students and
alumni have the opportunity to learn firsthand about a powerful global
economy," said Jennifer Fortney, NSCS' Senior Director, Outreach.
"Because of globalization, entrepreneurs and employees must learn as
much as they can about different countries and cultures, to succeed.
And we want to help young Americans do just that."
Participants must be a student or alumnus from an accredited U.S.
university. Deadline to apply for the program is November 17, 2008. For
more information, visit CPTLA online.
NCSU Student Wins Tim Ferriss Challenge and Receives Round-Trip Ticket
If you could win a round-trip ticket for anywhere in the world, and all you had to do was ask an "unreachable" person a question, would you do it?
That's the challenge NSCS members heard at NSCS Convention 2008 in Orlando, FL. Tim Ferriss, author of The Four-Hour-Work-Week and NSCS Convention Keynote Speaker, offered a round-trip ticket to one Convention attendee who was able to contact an unreachable person and ask him or her one question.
Tim picked the contest recipient-- and it's Ryan Springer from North Carolina State University , who contacted the former CEO of Bank of America, Hugh L. McColl Jr, who is largely credited with the company's meteoric growth.
Other students managed to ask questions of the Colts' Head Coach, Jack Nicklaus, Gov Charlie Crist of Florida, among many others.
You can read Ryan's story here, as well as that of other NSCS members who asked a famous person a question.
