About Chapters

NSCS chapters embody the spirit of each individual member’s commitment to scholarship, leadership, and service, built upon a foundation of integrity. The Society is proud to have chapters in over 300 higher education institutions across the country.

NSCS membership lasts a lifetime, like many of the bonds that form on campus early in one’s academic career. NSCS understands the importance of this and offers automatic chapter membership immediately upon joining. Getting involved with their local chapter is an exceptional way for NSCS members to foster relationships with fellow students who share their passion for scholarly excellence. More importantly, it provides a solid foundation on which to develop and refine their leadership skills and community service experience.

Each NSCS chapter has a dedicated leadership team whose role is to engage and inspire members to achieve their very best. Chapter leadership includes a faculty/staff advisor and a student officer board who serve as role models, exemplifying the ideals of what it means to be an NSCS member. This team takes an active role in creating and organizing chapter events and providing leadership in local community service activities. Chapter officers are also eligible for selection to serve on the National Leadership Council (NLC), which serves as an advisory board to the NSCS Board of Directors and national staff and is an essential resource for members.

Each year, typically in the fall, NSCS chapters conduct a formal New Member Induction Ceremony to welcome and celebrate new members and to honor their outstanding academic performance. The Induction Ceremony also recognizes outstanding members of the community as Distinguished Honorary Members and is attended by family and friends to recognize and support their loved one’s achievements.
