        “My name is Sally Chen and I am excited to be receiving the Merit Award Scholarship. This is my sophomore year and it is also my busiest year. I am a rather independent child; therefore this scholarship means a lot to me. I try to support myself financially as much as I can without asking my parents for money. This scholarship will lift some weight off of my shoulders. Now I can use this scholarship to apply for beneficial programs so that I can engage in my undergraduate studies and further advance my experiences. I have applied for a study abroad program and the application fees gave me problems. This scholarship showed me that I can accomplish a lot by trying. I was hesitant in applying for this award in the beginning because I thought I would not get it. Receiving this scholarship showed me that if I work hard, I can achieve anything.
